Members Only Observing Night

Begins : Friday, December 16, 2022 at 6:00 PM Central Standard Time

Ends : Friday, December 16, 2022 at 10:00 PM Central Standard Time

Duration : 4 hours

We try reserve Observatory nights nearest the New Moon to our CURRENT MEMBERS ONLY. This allows our members to work on their various observing projects, share ideas and help each other with their goals. The gates will open at 6:00 PM.    NOTE: This is well after sunset so drive carefully. Also due to the holidays, our Guest night is Saturday Dec 17. We would appreciate volunteers to help.


PLEASE NOTE: If nighttime temperature is extremely cold we may cancel or close earlier.

Dress warmly - Coat, Gloves, Hat - our rural site is colder than town.

Join us for a "Planet Parade" All the visible planets will be visible in the evening sky. Venus and Mercury hug the western horizon just after sunset. The planets Saturn and Jupiter will both be well placed for viewing. December is a great month for observing Mars rising in the east. It reached opposition Dec 7th. Check the website before you head out for updates.

As a member you can bring family members or a friend that wants to observe with you but no large groups. Please keep minor family members within your observing area with a supervising adult.

To develop your observing skills, you may want to consider trying to earn one of the over 40 well designed observing certificates from the Astronomical League. Check out some of their Observing Programs
