Come enjoy a night under the stars in our darker rural skies. The sun sets about 7:15 PM. Winter chill is in the air and temperature drops quickly at our rural hilltop location. A warm jacket and cap may be welcome as evening temperatures drop. You may also like to bring a snack and something to warm to drink. Please keep children with your group. Younger children may enjoy a quiet activity of their own. Please leave pets at home since this is a dark area with with people walking around enjoying the telescopes.
Our Astronomy club is a volunteer non-profit organization. Our guests are encouraged to consider a donation to help us with the ongoing expenses so that we can continue to offer opportunities to come and enjoy the starry night sky.
NOTE: Please check our WEBSITE HOME PAGE BEFORE heading out as events may have to cancel due to weather conditions. Events may be cancelled if forecasts indicate heavy cloud cover, storms, or extreme cold temperatures. We try to post notices of cancellations several hours before the event start time and email back anyone who registered on the website.
Now that Spring is arriving we have an opportunity to enjoy a new season of stargazing. Look for our evening planet Venus near the western horizon at sunset. As the Autumn constellations set soon after sunset, the winter constellations are well placed for viewing in the south. There are many deep sky wonders in the winter constellations of Orion, Taurus, and Gemini. One of the most spectacular nebulas, the Orion Nebula / M42 will be visible on some of our imaging setups for your viewing pleasure. As the evening progresses the regions of spring galaxies in Leo and Virgo become visible as they rise higher in the east. The Big Dipper asterism in the constellation of Ursa Major is also a rich region for galaxies.
Our telescopes will provide pleasing views of the star clusters, galaxies and nebula scattered behind the starry foreground that are not visible to the naked eye.
Our observing ground gates will open at 7:00 PM. Guests are asked to park on the lot at the large building next to our observing field. Please try to arrive before 7:45 PM and drive carefully if arriving after dark. Please follow the STAR PARTY ETIQUETTE while at the event.
