You are invited to join us Saturday October 7th for our Guests and Members observing night at our observatory. Weather permitting, we will have several telescopes set up for you to enjoy a summer evening under the stars. When approaching a telescope ask the owner if they are willing to share the views. You will also have an opportunity to visit the telescope in our observatory dome.
Autumn temperatures often drop quickly after dark in rural areas. A jacket is recommended. Closed toed shoes are preferable to flipflops. Bring along something to drink and maybe a light energy snack. We do have a restroom and a classroom area to relax and visit a bit.
The summer constellations along with the Milky Way are still on display in the SW sky. While the Autumn sky and galaxies are rising in the east. The Saturn with its rings is well placed for observing as soon as it gets dark. Jupiter rises in the ENE about 8:20 PM but we’ll have to wait an hour for it rise high enough to see much detail.
There are a couple of minor meteor showers going on in early October so we may be fortunate enough to see a few of them.
PLEASE NOTE: If severe storms nearby we may cancel or close earlier.
