You are invited to join us on Friday Night at our OBSERVATORY located in rural skies SW of Tulsa (See direction details below). Weather permitting, we will have several telescopes set up for you to enjoy the stars, galaxies, and other treasures of the night sky. Some of our members will have telescopes set up outside for viewing. You will also have an opportunity to visit the telescope in our observatory dome. When approaching a telescope ask the owner if they are willing to share the views.
Our Guest nights are OPEN to the PUBLIC. Donations are welcome to offset our operating expenses.
"Bringing the Stars to Eyes of Tulsa since 1937"
Please Read Details below:
Please refer to the driving directions at the end of this event posting, parking is available at the paved lot next to the large building to our east.
Come enjoy a night under the stars in our darker rural skies, sunset is about 8:40 PM. You may want to bring a snack and something to drink (non-alcoholic beverages). Please keep children with your group, younger children may enjoy a quiet activity of their own. Please, NO PETS!
Our Astronomy club is an all volunteer non-profit organization, our guests are encouraged to consider a donation to help us with the ongoing expenses so that we can continue to offer opportunities to come and enjoy the starry night sky.
The constellations of Ursa Major in the north and Leo and Virgo high in the south and southeast make for some great galaxy hunting opportunities in the larger telescopes and astrophotography rigs. Hercules and Ophiuchus rising in the east, and Scorpius low in the southeast give us great opportunities to see some Globular Star Clusters. Jupiter and Venus, our two brightest planets along with Mercury, will be visible beginning at dusk and will be nearby each other low in the west, dropping below the horizon before 11pm. Our telescopes will provide pleasing views of the star clusters, galaxies, and nebula scattered behind the starry foreground that are not visible to the naked eye. Something you can't see in the glare of the city lights, the Milky Way Galaxy is another great summer target that will be visible, and only requires your naked eyes and dark skies to see. Most modern cellphones with the proper settings can grab a snapshot if you like.
Our observing ground gates will open at 7:30 PM. Guests are asked to park on the lot at the large building next to our observing field. Please try to arrive before 8:00 PM and drive carefully if arriving after dark. Please follow the STAR PARTY ETIQUETTE while at the event.
